And to think there are probably at least two companies in the supply chain both making a profit, more if the component manufacturers are included (more profit), not to mention the freight company that shipped it halfway around the world (at a profit).

You probably don't type as many million words a year as I do.

Well, I use a Mac, so that probably accounts for the price.

As to the typing - I used to 'temp' during the holidays when I was a student, to keep body and soul together. I was often sent to legal firms and developed a strong left arm using the carriage return on hefty machines with what I seem to remember were called 'brief carriages'. Towards the end of this period a lot of (non-legal) firms were investing in electric typewriters so I gradually got used to adopting a lighter touch. A question of practice makes perfect, I suppose.

No, she just didn't bother to check whether the little bits of decoration round the door were part of a bigger scheme (they must have been) before having the rest of the plaster hacked off and replaced because it was old.
