Sitting here at computer and thinking about when we first got our house, If we were starting over again - would do so much differently. I have learnt so much about looking after a lovely old home, ahh and now we are on the kitchen, the last major room to do.
This lovely old house has uncovered so many lovely surprises for us.
Anyway, my point is, out of the info I gained/advice used , the advice we have used the most has come from this web site and forum, usually by looking, lately more by posting. So thank you.
But you know what - why does 'THE' builder turn up on the last room, the builder who looks lovingly at your kitchen and sigh lovingly and talk sense of lime, old fashioned hard work, reclaimed, well you know what i'm getting at. Where was he before, the blighter, where was he when we needed him?
I am thinking of previous people who have 'helped us', the one who wanted to take out our old gloving window and replace it with a nove modern one to keep the cold out (no he didn't) then electrician who when looking about suggested a nice glass stair rail system to let more light in to the upstriar (what was he on) and the same person offered to put in several outside sockets in our undercover courtyard for a nice big flatscreen. You know, the fact we didnt have a tv at all didnt deter him from his marvellous idea.
Wish we had been able to stop the 'person' who put in a nice wall of modern bricks for us and he felt we would like the contrast with our other walls, and yes we were out that day and it was a special surprise for me, really. They are all long stories as you will know. Dont get me wrong, we have had some great things happen as well, the lovely bperson who found an old pub sign in a skip and gave it to us as he felt I would love it and it would look nice in our courtyard (it does, its like an old fashioned ale house)
I'm getting a bit scared now we are on our last room, what to do. i like the dusty weekends and the cold evenings with no electirc or water or bathroom, I like sitting in an empty box of a room with my glass of wine with the old building looking on. We are not quite there yet, at the moment we have no kitchen, I am getting used to that and sort of grown fond of the empty box of a room we sort of rub along, it lets me make a cup or tea and thats about it.
The only solution is to start again and make good all the errors made when we started....I feel better allready.
