The method you describe is so much worse than just burning your own fallen stock; upsetting for the humans, deeply distressing for your living animals that would smell it (especially on a smallholding)and just rubbish biologically and ethically.

It would be nigh on impossible to burn your own stock. You need an incinerator. If you get the required type and get everything passed you can burn your own stock.

Why anybody would want to though...........

My knackerman is lovely. He never drips anything. I get paperwork. The smell of the dead doesn't seem to distress cows or sheep.
I am eternally grateful to him it beats the hell out of digging holes all over the place.

Oh, dear old Rambling Syd. Of all the comedians who've died in recent years/decades, I think I miss Kenneth Williams' humour the most.

Yes but you have to let them hunt/ride on your land :shock:


And they would have more meat than the dogs could eat so only use a few farms for disposal.

Just for info:

Spoke with Alex the other day he say that they could not stay in the farm house as it was condemned back in the 40s.

There is a shot of some red brick cottages at some point in the series, they stayed in there.

Apparently the health and safety nuts went mental and would not allow them.

I haven't seen this yet, but I grew up in the neighbourhood of Acton Scott, and can highly recommend visiting the farm museum.
If you are really interested, it used to be the case that you could volunteer to work there and live on the farm for a few weeks, helping out with all the usual chores (grooming shire horses and mucking out etc), but I'm not sure whether they still do this (I last went about 20 years ago!). During the summer there is lots going on, with regular visits of wheelwrights, blacksmiths, steam engines and threshing machines and you can see many traditional skills in action.
