The power of the interweb is incredible.
From a description of a car journey by Alex, I have managed to track down the house via Google Street View, then via various Google searches I have discovered what the house sold for in 2001 and 2005 as well as see that there are some papers lodged in the National Archive relating to some alterations to the property in 1956, the parish council minutes relating to a planning applications for a conservatory in 2002 and for vehicular access in 2003,
This was all in the space of around 30 mins. Who knows what else is out there! Scary!

Judging by the view up my lane, the pics were taken last summer. It's a shame you don't know when they are coming.

I settled for having piles of rubble and builders waste, a portaloo and a garden like a wasteland. It was sometime in late August/early September round here.
I actually watched the spycar cruise in and out of the adjoining close so presumably if you had Jack Bauer type tech you could enhance the image and see me gormlessly staring at it out my office window. Indeed with Hollywood levels of image enhancement you could make out the reflection in the pupils of my eyes of a black vauxhall astra with a bird table affair rammed on the roof.

I was going to start a 'oh look at nice buildings on Streetview' thread but then discovered Norwich Cathedral wasn't photographed well and the interweb distracted me again.

I can sort of understand wanting some decent sound insulation being that close to a major road, it's a pity that secondary glazing would probably have been more effective at that and would have kept the character of the house.
Now who's going to write a letter to the occupier of that place slagging their new windows? (not me I hasten to add)

That streetview thing is so invasive, I just saw my neighbour washing up at her sink, cleavage fully on view - I'm sure she wouldn't like that. They didn't get as far as BC though.

You can ask to be expunged if you like. It is legal in the UK to take pictures of things from the public highway and to publish photographs of people & buildings without their consent (esp. the buildings
). Amusingly some of the Streetview operatives were photographed by others having a crafty pee up an alley. Google took some exception to having their photographers photographed and put on the internet. Similarly the police regularly take photographs of the public but can get very aggressive if you take their picture or use a proper camera to photograph landmarks like the houses of parliament. It's a brave new world for sure!Alex

The visitors have gone now and I managed to vacuum the lime plaster dust off of the plates in the kitchen without them even noticing before they ate :lol: . Have had a look at that cottage and i'm not completely convinced that it is the same one. Yes, there was a hedge but I thought that the one I saw was brown as in deciduous rather than leylandii and from the car window I could see a lot more of the cottage than on the google photo but admittedly I couldn't see the downstairs windows because of the hedge. I also thought that it was facing the road and from the satalite photo that one doesn't appear to be. I'm going to ask 'Himself' to have a look at the photo to see what he thinks but he's not back until tomorrow, he has a much better memory than me for things like that, I admit to being dizzy. I wish that I could have stopped somewhere nearby and taken a picture on the phone, if it was closer, I think that I would have gone back for another look.
