Nemises, I have no desire to get into a slanging match over this, so this will be my last word on the matter.

I have been following the postings on this site for quite some time and for the most part have found them most helpful and constructive. In deed, I have enjoyed the gentle joshing which goes on between the regular contributors. However, I have noticed there have been a view occassions where offense has been caused and I don't think it is coincidence that you are invaribly involved. After a while, I would have thought you would take a leaf out of Terry Wogan's book and asked yourself the question; "Is it me?".

It would be interesting to hear what your CO has to say on the subject. In a terrace, where everyone else has painted their joinery white, a strong departure in colour might look a bit odd. It's something I have to consider, since all my neighbours have white uPVC windows now. I'd like to go back to a green, but will probably restrict that to the doors.

If you have taken offence I think that's a problem with you not me, and I doubt whther most people posting here will care much one way or another. Ian - I know this doesn't apply to you, but in some Conservation Areas there is an Article 4 restricting colour schemes, and in places such as Bath a multitude of colours would detract from the overall homogeniety of the site.
Clearly so much depends on individual buildings and the wider area as to what could be deemed appropriate. Sometimes a muted scheme is better to allow the architecture to shine through. At times a main house can be different from surrounding outbuildings.
It's a matter of some subjectivity obviously.

I've been delving into why people at times painted things the colours they did too. It wasn't always simply they fancied a colour I feel.

My house stands in isolation, so this is not a problem for me. As you say, I can see the need for a uniform look in a terrace. The pink on my house is not very strong or deep. I expect my wife will go through 25 different tester pots before we hit on the correct one, but it is nice to know we are not restricted to white.
For some reason, I cannot see the pictures you have posted. I've found myself looking at all the pictures of pink timber-framed houses I can find and noting the window colours! I won't be doing it until the spring now as I'd like to use linseed oil paint but would prefer it if it took less than two weeks for each coat to dry! Actually, the background green on this forum is rather pleasant. I wonder if I can get the administrators to put a little pink on the page so I can see how they go together.

I really like those green windows. To me they look pleasantly mellow and echo the green of the surrounding foliage very nicely - but because coloured paintwork isn't the norm, they look distinctive too. Food for thought.

I wonder how much the previious owners of that cottage worried about paint schemes?
I love Landmark - and also Vivat. Both do great work. But I reckon that in the main scratching a daily existence was, historically, what was important to the occupants of that cottage.

Glad you like it MD - wish it was mine, but I was lucky to be able to have a short break in it and pretend.
They're pretty strict with that Firewall aren't they?
The windows are painted white inside - except the kitchen, where all the woodwork's brown.
I did actually get out and about and enjoy my holiday, and not just spend all my time photographing the building, honest! But it was inspirational.

Yes Ian - not much gets past that firewall!
Looks a really nice part of the country too. My house isn't thatched mind you. Actually, we have the woodwork green inside which looks nice against the oak studs. We thought about asking to change the colour outside to cream, but so many people new it as 'the pink house' we decided not to.
