I have noticed the Eastern bias! I live in Mold. This forum has made me so nosey, every house I pass by now gets its windows, doors and finish scrutinised! Mainly because I'm gathering ideas. I drive everyone around me crackers commenting on the misuse of cement - now that I realise how unforgiving it is, and it is everywhere. My house is covered in it, and the ground immediately surrounding it too! ((Sigh))...

It does get you like that! I had to smile at hearing a young UPVC door-to-door salesman talking to my wife this week - she'd answered the door, I was inside within earshot. The conversation went along the lines of:-
"Hello again, I know you've said before that you can't stand UPVC windows and frankly I don't blame you because I like your old windows as well, but my boss has insisted I call round again so here I am. Still not interested in a conservatory? No, I thought not, it just wouldn't look right would it? Oh well, no doubt I'll see you again in a few months. Bye."
At least he's friendly and not as persistent as the Mormons.

There is a slight irony about that. Where we are - not far from a Mormon church - we get a lot of Mormon callers, and they are always young, male, usually Dutch, very smartly dressed and clean cut and usually riding bicycles.
They also always come round in pairs and it has to be said they do often look like they are a gay couple.

Have you thought of introducing your Mormon callers to your uPVC salesmen - and cutting out the middle-man?

I wouldn't see the lack of trees as an indication that there are no roots in the drain. We had several blockages, which I cleared with the rods. Eventually, I decided to have Dyno-Rod and their CCTV to have a look.
There was a "step" where one pipe had sunk down below the one following it, so the flow backed up there. I think that was the main cause of the problems. However, most of the joints had very thin, wispy roots growing through - whether grass, or distant trees I know not. The nice Dyno-Rod man tried to persuade us to have their high-tech team come and "line" the pipes to prevent future problems. The price was astronomical!
We had the builders in, starting a few weeks later, so had them replace the whole run of sewer pipe to the boundary. It cost us little more than the price of the placcy pipe (ie not a lot).

That's the problem. You don't have to have big, chunky roots that actually block the pipe themselves. Any small obstruction can act as a "matrix" upon which muck and sludge slowly builds up, until you have a blockage.Keithj said:
