The boffins clearly aren't impressed with the archictect's rendition. "In overall shape it consists of two kinked laboratory blocks joined by a central atrium, in a shape reminiscent of a chromosome (albeit a strange dicentric one)." is how they describe it.

Yes, Joss. They've been in the market here for nearly a week now.
Last year I bought4 lbs too many, so they've been sitting in the freezer ever since - but they've made super marmalade. Once they'd been used I bought another 4lb from the market and made another batch, and you really can't tell any difference.

The boffins clearly aren't impressed with the archictect's rendition. "In overall shape it consists of two kinked laboratory blocks joined by a central atrium, in a shape reminiscent of a chromosome (albeit a strange dicentric one)." is how they describe it.

Perhaps it is the commencement of anaphase. And I hope they had the wit to name the four side blocks adenine, guanine, thymine and cytosine!

There are a few other clues that the architects aren't quite on the same wavelength as the future occupants of the building:

Beardless people wearing suits? Not a pair of sandals in sight? Anyone would think this was an office for mere adminstrators*!

*When I started working for the organisation a very senior colleague was so appalled at my determination to make the scientific department take some responsibility for their vast expenditure budget she took to referring to Finance (my department) as "mere administration". She was correct of course. It was not very tactful, but then nor was I.

Must be something about Cambridge architects having a sense of humour.

One of the research centres for the company I work for. It is officially discribed as "A marquee-like structure", but known widely a The Three ring Circus. Cleaverly, so as not to spoil creative thinking the office walls are made out of whiteboard material, so the boffins can just scribble away with ease.

Close, but no cigar. It's actually next door to the Antarctic Survey building, but it's nothing to do with them.

Those architects are also the architects of Glyndebourne, the Inland Revenue HQ in Nottingham, Norwich Forum (library) and the new buildings at Norwich Cathedral. Hardly a duff work among them. Hopkins himself lives in Suffolk, not far from Penners (should Mrs P still want a kitchen extension)
