There are times when it's an appropriate word to use, like when trying to stop chunks of it being bulldozed. Somehow 'SAVE Britain's Historic Environment' isn't the same.

Actually, my loo seat has a chrome label on it saying it's HERITAGE.
The plastic parts broke very rapidly after purchase.

I hope the term 'heritage community' doesn't become widespread in use. Not sure what, why, and of whom that would consist!
'Community' is another word I dislike used in this way.
( I do have some very drunken pics of several who could possibly qualify though, which maybe I could use for purposes of blackmail...)
I also dislike being made to feel 'engaged' when visiting certain historic places. If I wish to wander from room to room unmolested I should be able to do so. I detest people in costume pretending to be someone connected with the place and its history, who hover with an inane grin and try to make eye contact and greet visitors with words such as 'prithee' and attempt to 'interpret' when I possibly know rather more than they do at times about the place and its history.
Here's a place I used to enjoy, but no longer:
On 22 June 2004 Wordsworth House reopened, imaginatively presented for the first time as the home of the Wordsworth family in the 1770s. The house offers a lively and participative visit with hands-on activities and costumed living history. Rooms on display include a working 18th-century kitchen, the children’s bedroom, Mr John Wordsworth’s offices and other family rooms. The garden, with terraced walk overlooking the River Derwent, has been attractively restored to its 18th-century appearance as the favourite playground of the young Wordsworths.

I don't wish to encounter a servant carrying an overflowing chamber pot, nor do I wish to join in with the hard work - it's a day away from it, for heaven's sake! And quite what use I would be able to make of the reproduction furnishings beats me (a bit of rumpy pumpy in the feather bed?).
Sadly, I now eschew what used to be a regular place to visit (as part of a day in Cockermouth) for fear of being molested by some person in a mob cap or breeches desirous of me getting down to a spot of floor sanding or syllabub manufacturing.
The buggers even shut the tea room. No cream scones. Not a piece of Grasmere gingerbread to be had.
Maybe I should pen a sonnet about the loss.

Abstract:
With the apparent focus of work carried out by the heritage 'community' very much directed towards heritage practices in the present, the potential historical scope for the discipline as a whole, becomes ever-more temporally closed. This paper makes space for a longer historical analysis of the development of heritage as a process. The paper ranges over the evolution of a medieval sense of heritage and how it is related to transitions in the experience of space and place, and also explores some early modern developments in the heritage concept, relating them to societal changes associated with colonial (and post-colonial) experience. This deeper understanding of the historically contingent and embedded nature of heritage allows us to go beyond treating heritage simply as a set of problems to be solved, and enables us to engage with debates about the production of identity, power and authority throughout society.
I only wish someone would explain what it means.

Back to the "things to ban"......
Russian vine. Bl*&dy stuff. Commonly known as "mile a minute", for good reason. Just spent all day fighting the one in my garden (as with 3 days previously) - planted by some cretinous previous owner god alone knows how long ago - probably only a couple of years, judging by the speed at which it grows!
Plan is to get it all back to ground level, let it re-grow a little bit and then find something distinctly environmentally unfriendly to put on it - anyone got any tips?
Anyone who suggests digging out all the roots is welcome to come round and try - I reckon above ground it must have spread by 40' easily !

Yes. it's certainly a happy plant given its head! In the right place it can be quite pleasing, especially when in flower, but it's a pity how many people plant it to hide 'eyesores' such as oil tanks and then leave it to go berserk, not realising how large it can grow.
If you really must, then this is pretty good, although indiscriminate use of nasty stuff isn't to be encouraged!

Many years ago, when I was doing some leaflet-dropping, I saw a flowering hedge that was so attractive that I had to knock on the door and ask what it was. It turned out that it was Russian Vine that had simply been kept neatly clipped.
For extermination, however, there's nothing to beat Roundup. Provided, of course, that you don't let it drift on to nearby plants.
