The ugly bit of Feltwell Towers

While I now have some 'can do' understanding of the technique we don't have one of the utility box thingies. I will ask some mates in Cadfael's haunt to check it out - assuming they haven't already.

Also, was that the right one, there were rumoured to be many fakes.

If they simply cut round a perfect sized template it's going to always be at least the thickness of the tool bigger...

I think they're savvy enough to know not to do that, they draw round the template then cut round the inside. I think the could have done a better job this time - their workshop has a diamond edge polishing machine, it's meant for smoothing the edge for things like shelves but of course it also works to shave little bits off the glass. I suspect it was just a pain in the arse job that they rushed through

Usually, with having sash windows, I just take the sash in and get them to cut glass to suit - guaranteed to fit that way - they've had to use the edge polisher to trim wee bits off after cutting before. Alas, after 124 years in-situ this old iron window was going nowhere!
