oh well, it was worth a shot - as we're STILL waiting to know whether we can go ahead and repair/rebuild/uncover our bathroom and hidden fireplace (the fans and dehumidifiers are now part of the furniture and I fear will soon be part of the items as part of the LB!), so any benefits we could get back through the work would have made a welcome change!

I'm a member of the LPOC. I didn't set out to be - it just happened.
The opening post in this thread mentions "£55 a month". The actual figure is £55 a year. It's £48 a year if you pay by direct debit.
I ended up with the LPOC when I was using a specialist broker to arrange insurance. The insurance I've now got is very reasonable, and doesn't come with loads of 'conditions'. They understand that older buildings might be left empty (if you don't yet live in them full time) and can be harder to secure (5-lever mortice locks aren't that easy to fit to 250-yr-old ledge/brace doors!).
The insurance seems to have been discounted because I was a member of the LPOC - the introductory membership rate was £30 a year, which won't kill me. :wink:
I agree with other people that there seems to be a vibe with the LPOC that means by owning a listed building, you are in some sort of elite.
The only 'elite' I feel I am in is one with a lot of problems, hard graft and annoying restrictions. :lol:

I think it's the other way round - most myths are bucolic and ancient, so the relatively few (newish) urban ones are noteworthy.
