When I were a lad, if I got into trouble at school I would then have been in trouble at home for shaming my parents.
A few years ago I worked as a secondary school teacher. I knew a number of teachers at different schools who has been assaulted by parents after putting their children in detention.
Says a lot about society doesn't it!

After a very long wait and major deliberations with planners, builders and the power authority, the pole is gone and a new one is in a more convenient place but still on our garden, it cost us about £1500 which was disappointing. We had no legal right to have it removed completely and have no wayleave.
But we do have a "Danger of Death" yellow sign stuck on the new one.

I'm surprised to hear you had no right to have it removed, particularly as it was nothing to do with the supply to your own property. Did you ever get an full explanation for why this was? I wonder whether the utility company had made a 'one-off' payment to a previous owner in exchange for rights in perpetuity. Even so, I would have thought such rights would be registered in your deeds.
Still, at least you got it moved as you wished.

Oooo Interesting topic! Wish I'd seen this last year.
Our street of old higgldy piggldy terraced cottages is supplied with Power and BT lines via these overhead poles.
Theres one right outside our house but just an inch to the side of what would be called our land (doorstep = us, beyond doorstep = council)
The cables criss cross the street and are covered in Swallows each year which although lovely to watch provide a thick layer of 'goo' atop my car every day.
Anyway to cut long story short, a few months ago the bin men came reversing down the street and hit the pole. Pole was knocked in half. Stump still stuck in at ground level whilst top half was left swinging from overhead wires, knocking into the side of ours and neighbours property, sparks a flying.
My poor 'across the street' neighbour watched on in horror while the sparks fell across the street and up the other poles.
Thankfully no-one was hurt but desite this being the 2nd time its happened there was a new pole erected the same evening.
BT have been back and taken their cables underground but we're still left with the power lines - and a weekly rubbish collection who have since reversed into someones car...what do they say on these disaster documentarys....its not 'if' it will happen again...is only 'when'....dum dum dah......
