Great to hear from you and thank you very much for your highly informative and helpful advice. I bought my garden chairs last year from a firm called Barlow Tyrie; they are teak on a stainless steel frame:

I chose this design to fit in with my rather modernistic garden. They are very nicely made, but whatever I use to treat the teak needs to be kind to the stainless steel.

Unfortunately it seems that it is very hard to find people that know what they are doing in almost every industry. It is certainly the case in engineering, the industry that I work in. People who have knowledge are usually undervalued and considered expendable. Sales people, HR, marketing, and major shareholders are the important people.

Speaking as an ex-marketing man I can sympathise with that point-of-view.

In my own defence, however, I should add that when I started my own furniture manufacturing company, it was essential that I learned how to carry out every operation in the manufacturing process, including buying the timber, setting up the machines, making jigs, machining, polishing, assembly, packing... and cleaning the toilets.

So not every marketing man is a technical dunce. :wink:

Personally I have found it impossible to get full ingredient disclosure from any manufacturer.

Would citing COSHH 2002 get them to release a full list of ingredients? My understanding is that, In some industries, an employer writing a COSHH statement for their employees has a legal right to the information from a product supplier.
