Suggestions for improvements?

I'm unsure of the colouring, it makes it quite hard to read, perhaps something lighter for this box background for when you are writing your message.

It also makes it hard to see the links, as they merge together in colour.

I agree with that. I sent Simon a message suggesting the link font be given a higher contrast.
I do like the generally PPUK colour scheme though. It makes a change from the ubiquitous pale blue of most php boards.

True, but black text when writing your post would be better than the dark green against light green, or Dark green on a very pale green or white box would be good.

How about splitting the forum into topic threads, such as building inside, building outside, garden, materials etc?

How feasible would it be to include a spell checker in the Message box. I do get fed up of re typing me typos and spurious characters which creep in at the dead of night (with the cat!)
Alternatively I suppose I could learn to type!

I have the Google toolbar at the top of my screen. It includes a spellchecker that works on all message text boxes like this.

I have made a couple of changes to the colour scheme of the forum following suggestions made by a few people. I have changed a few colours to help readability whilst trying to maintain the overall theme of the palette of colours used. I have replaced the khaki green that used to background the titles of the forums with a beige so that the dark green used in the text is more visible. I have also lightened the green used to background the authors of new threads and most recent messages so that the dark green text is more visible. I trust that the improvements are helpful and I will warmly receive constructive comments, both in favour or otherwise. Likewise with any other improvements that can be made, we will warmly receive such comments.

The old forum was very clever at flagging up the messages that had been added to a thread since I last logged on. Very useful.
Is there any chance that this could be done here?

From the forum index page, look to the top right of the forum messages, click on "view posts since last visit".
I have this set as my favourite page for the forum and always log directly into it.

I think I must be logging into a different forum. When I logged on just now all the little four-sided shapes were white as snow. And at the top right of the forum messages it just says 'mark all topics read'.

It's plain discrimination, and I may take it to a higher court (Strasbourg?) because it infringes my human right to the same forum as the rest of you.

The old site site used to welcome my visits

This site still thinks I am a stranger, I,ve got to log in at every visit even after it has been told to log me in at every visit.

I am sure that it is not the compurer and if it could speak it would shout to any mates " THAT MUG IS BACK ON MY KEYBOARD...!!!".

Well mr computer, unless you are capable of mixing my plaster and slapping it on the walls as far as I am concerned you are the mug, so,just stick to simple comunication tasks and leave the complicated stuff to me.
Furthemore, if you was that easy to get on with Evelyn and Grimmers would have joined .

If you have to log in each time then you must have cookies disabled in the security settings, or have a cookie cleaner which most likely runs as you turn off the pc.

I have exactly the same problem, and it's not a security setting or a cookie cleaner that's causing it on my computer.

I've asked Simon if he knows why it happens.

While you are in Internet Explorer

Change the cookies to accept all, or you could try one of the low risk settings, but it depends on what sort of a cookie the site sends out, whether it has any security/privacy settings in it.

Do you have any trouble returning to other sites? Do you use any other forums like this which allow you to auto log in? Only other thing I can think of is maybe a firewall setting?
