I want the kitty bench. It's magnificent.

Jose, he's not gorgeous at the moment. There's a baby bird dying on the persian rug as I type this. I'm hopeless with birds. I can't bear the feathers and the fluttering so there it remains until the old boy gets home. I think it may have passed - the bird not the old boy, who's living it with lunch at River Cottage. It doesn't bode well for the chickens which come in a few weeks time

Vicky - exciting about your chickens!
I wouldn't worry about Albert munching on them especially if you have gone for a largeish variety. I've never heard of a cat killing a full size chicken.I was really worried about Macav to begin with but he's completely terrified of them. He's associated chickens with bad news so I can now even bring the little bantams in the kitchen for a bit of TLC and he just runs away. This is the typical story I've heard on the hen forum.

I can second Joce's comments about cats and hens; we've never had any such problems - and we don't even have a fierce cockerel guarding his harem. I assume that a relatively large and flappy bird would scare off most cats.

I thought about a timber seat but they mostly seem to be teak and I'm not sure of their green credentials plus timber needs maintenance and I think the sheep will jump on the seat or rub up to it at least. So stone seems best.

Have you thought about metal?
You could have one made by a blacksmith to your own design.
