Hi Guys, thanks for your great comments. I think that the issue is a "toe and heel" one. Have a company coming into sort it out.
Agreed that wood is best, but as I'm doing the house up slowly I have to do the best with what I have. I really miss the wooden windows and doors on my old house. Suprisingly it was a modern build which eschewed uPVC for real wood.
On my current older house we decided that there is no point having a great wooden porch door with windows that don't match. When I can afford to replace the windows I'll probably get matching wooden porch doors.

Loft situation was resolved satisfactorily with underfelt in a small area. My fault for taking the eye off the ball with the builders, I didn't understand how much of a difference that this could make.

Many years ago a motor-cyclist lost control at high speed on a corner and careered up the steps to our friends' ancient and solid oak back door. The door survived intact. But it, and the entire frame, and the bike, ended up on the floor inside the house.

What is it about your friends/family and motorcyclists? It sounds as though being included in the Moo family circle carries certain hazards.
