I've got a dinning room too though. It's a place where Chris bellows loudly for food, Ems jumps in and out the coal scuttle gleefully or chases bunnies up the chimney, Horry wails to have his tummy tickled, and on Chris work from home days, rumbling South African voices argue about banking software all day long.

Lovely delicate balusters, I'd need to change that wall colour and carpet though :wink: But you must be very pleased to get it all done.

Joce is just forgetting that the colour scheme has been designed to go with all the pictures of elephants that will go on the wall :lol: Everyone should have lots of pictures of elephants

I think l lost the plot

going to open as a B&B later this week so carpet needs to be able to take that sort of wear. The colour in the hall way is a discussion point in our house. The walls are not the colour l though we had discussed and it was bought and started before l ................................. Its a lot better than the black handrails and mouldy green colour it was and if it gets on my nerves l will repaint in a year or two when the to do list allows or wear dictates.

At the risk of digging myself further into a hole here, I'll just reiterate the point I often make that colours and objects don't happen in a vacuum. White lacy balusters, lovely, utilitarian hard wearing contemporary dark carpet, fine, white joinery, OK, orange-peach walls - actually lovely and I'm
strongly thinking of it for the drawing room. But all together it isn't quite working.

Smart and fresh though and wishing you all the best with the B&B. In a few years maybe change the walls to a blue grey and the other elements will be at home.

As l said in the original post the colour has been changed with the flash in the photo. I was going to post a photo in daylight however have decided to draw a line under the discussion.

However with LadyArowana inspiration l have ordered a tartan carpet for the whole area and thought l may look at getting a real life elephant to pick up logs for firewood from the forestry

I wouldn't rely on using elephants to pick up logs for firewood, they'll probably spend more time looking for lost mobile phones and then using them for 'selfies'.

Deep fried mars bars would be an appropriate offering I think. He gets given lots of different delicacies, but sweet things are favoured.

As for elephants and logs they have a long history as "heavy machinery" in forestry in SE Asia. Of course you would need to get one that had already been trained, but I'm sure the guests would love it. You could even use the Thai trick of "buy some bananas and feed the elephant" to help out with the food bills.
