Tee hee MdB you're suffering now for going to live in a tropical climate!
We are accessible only by 4 X 4 and helicopter and my poor brother drove all the way from Bristol on Friday without a hitch until he got to the lane and the track, when apparently he slid back down complete with screaming babies in the back and my dad had to come out and rescue.
Just as the meal preparations reached their most intense, we were plunged into complete blackness by the mother of all power cuts (general, not my electrics problem) which lasted an hour and a half. Undaunted, I dusted the snow off the BBQ and prepared to cook outside and lit a million candles all over the house. The power did come back on, though, and though I had prepared the meal largely in darkness I was at last able to cook it in the new oven.
Despite the heating being on solidly for 3 days and nights and roaring fires in every room we can only get the cottage to 14 degrees C, which my guests have found to be the kind of temperature where one does not remove one's coat (though I find it boiling).
Even with these minor hitches I think they quite enjoyed themselves. The chickens refuse to set claw in snow and are sitting in the henhouse having a giant egg laying competition - I even got a double yolker!
And the snow is completely magical. I've spent a long time trying to identify tracks, and have come to the conclusion I have a little family of wolves living in the spinney.

London is bright and sunny. When the sun has not yet penetrated there is still a thin dusting over powder over treacherous ice.
We need to commission one of our Latinists to write an ode to the Domestic Goddesss of the Beacon Temple! My 14-year-old's Latin is not up to a Horatian Ode just yet but his recent report form his Latin master ended "the sky is only an intermediate limit", which I take to mean he is getting on well.

Good to hear those who have checked in are OK. I was rather hoping for a few photos, guess everyone is too embarassed because of the large plastic santas and reindeer in their gardens :lol: .
Joce, maybe it was the wolves that scared the eggs out of the chickens. Lucky that the power came back so you could use that lovely new oven.

We have about the same as you Joce, however, my neighbours said their parents were due to come here from Louth, but it is really bad there.
Pavements are lethal here too, but the main street is reasonably clear due to the number of people coming into waitrose.
'Im indoors' has stuffed socks into the gaps in the bedroom windows and I have hung a second set, behind the main curtains in another bedroom-- really will have to get double lined blinds made in the New Year.
My 6/4 Aga is driving me mad, bread rolls came out like scones and the ovens are too small, to say nothing of a soggy bottom to the flan because I cannot cook on the floor of the ovens grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

No snow in this part of Cornwall (there is quite a bit elsewhere in Cornwall apparently) but we can do white clouds, white froth and white foam. Does that count?

That's one window with homemade secondary glazing - and here's the other:
One fits properly and we're struggling to make the other one fit because window and frame are wonky in several dimensions. We've never had frost on the inside before.

Here in North Wales, the failures of Copenhage are apparent - only a light dusting (say an inch at best) at 750ft. I remember when it used to snow for weeks on end and the trains stopped running. In the cut-price noughties we've substitued weeks for minutes, but at least the tradition of non-running trains has been maintained.
I blame the French.

Love the windows Ushy. A thing of beauty that few get to see nowadays. We had about three inches on Saturday night. A friend who got home from a night shift at 6.30 am said that his car registered -11. Although this picture suggests that we have excellent loft insulation, the truth is the central heating does not work very well.

We spent a couple of hours this morning sledging,and have a snowman planned for tomorrow. (Spent some time tonight putting more insulation between the cellar stairs and the bedroom above)
