That's amazing, There can't be many private houses of that age that are that size without having been massively over extended.

I don't know the area at all but I'm really surprised at the price.

Just had a quick look for an equivalent around here. A similar sized 17th century cottage plus modern extensions with half the amount of land and nowhere near the character or historical significance is £1.7m.

On an A-road, opposite what looks like an industrial plant.

It looks to be this one.

Move it into a side road by a few hundred yards and the price would double.

Unfotunately it is on a main road, although in a small village so the traffic isn't racing through. I haven't noticed an industrial plant, but that could be because I always admire the house as I pass.

The road wouldn't put me off too much, but the industrial estate is not good. I agree that has a major impact on it's value even if you can't see it from the road.

It's amazing the effect google earth must have had on the property market. We once were persuaded to view a property after causally inquiring at an estate agents. He took us around there and then and we fell in love with it until we got home and looked on google earth. The lovely woodland opposite that we imagined having sunday afternoon walks in turned out to only about 30 foot deep and opened up to the local sewerage works. The estate agent never mentioned that.

The lovely woodland opposite that we imagined having sunday afternoon walks in turned out to only about 30 foot deep and opened up to the local sewerage works.

I rented - luckily, not bought - a house that was 2 miles from what is apparently the biggest sewage works in the UK. As we found out after we'd moved in, on a hot day when the wind was in the wrong (right?) direction, the smell from the works was not at all pleasant. If it was foggy it was nearly unbearable - the fog seemed to trap the smell in. Google Earth is a very useful tool, I'd never move again without checking out the surrounding area!

I remember, many years ago, taking a friend for a local jolly in a little aeroplane. He asked if we could look at the house he was about to buy, which we did.
Seen from above, the subsidence on the hillside next to the house was blindingly obvious. It wasn't at all apparent from ground level.

He didn't buy it. He went off and learned to fly and is now very affluent and living in California.

Oooo we have cycled past this and it's gorgeous. The village is perfect too, don't recall thinking the location was an issue though the road is busy. We can all dream huh!

It's very lovely but I expect it to go for offers way in excess of £175,000. My nephew is a doctor in Norwich and has been looking for a property but he's just settled for a five bed modern estate house - where's his soul gone, eh

I (well, We) put a bid in for the Meeting Hill property. Ours was a reasonable amount over the estimate, and apparently it went for "A LOT" more. I did however get plenty of photos of the inside and found out a bit more about it.
There were a few issues with it, but mainly centred around the relatively recent addition between the old parts of the house and the barn. Apart from that it was pretty good inside, but unfortunately painted on every wall with a nasty glossy emulsion.
I became very fond of the place and was sorry to see it go to someone else. I just hope they don't gut the inside and replaster/plasterboard it out, as one builder I spoke to suggested!!

In my lusty youth I had a girlfriend who lived in Long Itchington. It is (or was in those days) a very pleasant village, although I imagine the main Birmingham/Banbury road is probably pretty busy these days.

The girl was one of a pair of identical twins. I and my mate Peter were going out with the two of them. The girls were truly identical (and very gorgeous), and Pete and I were never sure whether they used to play tricks on us by swapping around on dates.
