Ty Mawr have a lot of info as they invested the Limecrete system. They are happy to give advice over the phone. I laid a limecrete floor with foamed glass aggregate underneath. It works well as far as I can tell. We no longer have damp on an internal wall with no dpc. THe chap at Ty Mawr told me that the aggregate does not allow moisture to wick up due to capillary action, so the slab will not get soaked and that the mass of limecrete will act as a buffer, absorbing and desorbing according to the moisture of the ground underneath. Therefore he said that the finish is not really that important. I have quarries bedded on sand lime screed which obviously does allow evaporation as if anything iompermeable is left on the floor it gets a little damp under, but if Ty Mawr is to be believed then a "breathable" surface finish is not essential.
