Septic tank problem

Just when life is going swimmingly well! following heavy constant rain last week we found that our infamous septic tank was again backing up. My cursory investigations revealed that the drainage ditch which is piped under the road, seemed to be blocked. A call to the Authorities and within four hours the chaps had arrived with lorry and jetting gear. It was almost two hours before they announced 'all clear'. Now three days later the same pipe appears to be blocked again, and again I can see that water is flowing under the pipe, not through it. Looks to me like every time we have 12 hours of heavy rain we are treated to a back flow! Time for a discussion with the Authorities perhaps.

Have a care before stirring up the authorities. Make sure that whatever is coming from your septic tank into a public drain is allowed to go there. (Presumably the drain to which you refer is simmply a public storm water drain rather than foul water?)

I know exactly where your coming from keith, but I have no options but to pass the problem over, very politely of course The water coming from our septic tank must be reasonably clean as the local duck population offer no objections The drain is an open ditch which seems to run around local areas and also services local farmers drains off the fields I assume. They are very long standing arrangements going back to the 1890's, maybe further.
If anybody is interested I will update as we go along.
