I don't think this can be called graffiti if it's sanctioned and done by professionals.
If it's well understood that the artwork is coming off in two years anyway, I don't see any problem with it...other than that for two years the castle will look very odd.

I'm surprised they need to go as far as Brazil to find graffiti artists; many of our major cities seem to have enough 'talent' of their own. Still, that's globalisation for you.

What about the graffiti artist called "Banksy" from Bristol whos work was "cleaned" up by accident by the dumb council - he sells pieces for over £100000

Their are also some famous Pieces in NYC at the Metro and Museum of modern art as well.
The murals in Northern Ireland are protected as well and have a listed status (years ago you would not dare deface them)

I suppose it's how you define "graffiti". A quick Wiki look (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graffiti) and it's defined as "images or letters applied without permission to publicly viewable surfaces such as walls or bridges". That's how I would define it, with the difference between a mural and graffiti as whether the artist has been given permission to use the surface or not. The style and meaning has nothing to do with it; just because an artist chooses to paint in a street style and use urban themes is irrelevant.
I'm sorry to take the edgy street cred from the artist, but if you're imported from Brazil and are paid a pretty penny to paint on the surface of a castle by a Scottish laird, then it's not urban underground art. Might still be art, but I don't think of it as a depiction of the anguished cries of the tormented inner city graffiti artist.
I would say the Scottish castle paintings would NOT be graffiti, but would simply be a mural (if a temporary one). Again, the artistic merit is not a part of this discussion. It could be high art that touches the souls of thousands. Ain't graffiti, though.

I agree about the imported Brazilian bit most definately but the Famous "Free Derry wall" would also be classed as graffiti as it was painted without permision one night (as the story goes) on the way into city - it was painted white so local spotters could watch the Army and RUC silhouette against the wall when going on patrol at night. now it is a famous mural.
Begs the question when does graffiti stop being graffiti!
PS Have you been to the "Salt lick" in Austin? One of the best Meat fests in the whole of Texas

Chris, I live about 30 minutes north of Austin; commuting distance. Austin food and Tex-Mex are one of the few things I'll miss about Texas when we move to the UK permanently. All my husband can moan about is where we're going to find salsa and pico de gallo in Suffolk.

I don't know if the Free Derry wall would be graffiti, either. While it was painted without permission, I don't think it has the message context that is part of graffiti, and (should be) part of all art. It might be worth saving as a bit of history, but not as art.
