I reckon it's a Christmas cannon-ball. Hostilities were temporarily suspended on Christmas Day, and these cannon-balls were filled with sweeties and fired over the enemy lines.

Wow, I would never have realised how lovely the wood was on old scaff planks. I am now hunting for one for my fireplace.

Be warned - I think you'll find that the gap between rough scaffold plank and gorgeous mantelpiece is filled with large quantities of planing, sanding and varnishing.

Anyway, welcome back, Marm. What's your excuse for absence? We didn't get a note from your mum.

Can't believe my luck I spotted a scaffolding plank sticking out of a skip a few weeks ago and asked if I could have it - then man thought I was bonkers! I'm quite excited by skips I just wish there were more interesting things in them - seems to be mostly old B&Q kitchens?! Did you just sand yours back or did you stain it -its come up a nice colour.
