Sash Chord

Am currently renovating one of my sash windows, using the DIY kit for draftproofing.

The kits also came with some nylon sash chord. Is this the best thing to use, or would the more traditional stuff you get at hardware stores be better?

I can't see that the nylon can be a problem (stretch it a bit before fitting if you can) as trad cord eventually often snaps. It may last longer!

Make sure its good and strong, especially if you have kids, (A flat minor is not good). I you live in a garrison town there is an additional hazzard: A flat major.

The "Nylon" sash cord in the kits is actually a yacth cord. Most of the top quality sash window companies use this type of cord, because it is pre-stretched and washable. The more traditional waxed cord attracts dirt which reduces its life considerably. Also if your pulleys ever get stuck there would be less friction from this type of cord. The typical breaking strain of this type of cord is 3000kgs.
