Our house was built circa 1774 and we've a gable wall constructed of sandstone. We've noticed the inside wall is damp, even wet from the ground up, to a couple of feet! We've bought a £100 Delonghi dehumidifier to help with the problem. We've had someone round from a damp and timber company (that had done previous DPC work on the building in 1992 and re-injection in February 2007). He said the wall would need rendering to prevent the ingress of moisture and that this would solve the problem, but we'd have to wait until next May/June for the wall to "dry" out before this could be carried out. Is this right? We're thinking of getting a second opinion. Who would you advise? Any other questions/help would be very much appreciated.
