We often get onto energy debates on this forum - it doesn't seem to matter where we start - I think it's cos once you get past 40 you start to feel the cold more :wink: Tee Hee !!

Actually, the days when this site was about period buildings and their conservation and conservative and appropriate repair, and allied concerns, was rather more interesting than what has been going on here for a while.

Thanks to Gervase who does keep going, and knows what he's talking about, but mostly it's degenerated to lifestyle lite.

I had one of those. Sony F1 system. Still got it actually and it still works. Terrible video quality by comparison to today's palm-held marvels.

This site is rather a broad church these days. But then, it doesn't belong to anyone in particular (save the mods, of course), and so it is the regular community (both longstanding and newest posters alike) who can and will take it largely where they please. There is a fantastic wealth of experience, advice and concern on here - and also a good feeling of community; a balance which may not please everyone, but which seems to work. The great thing about the internet/blogosphere is that it is almost ungovernable.

Now back to slide rules - what's one of those? The only slide rule I have is that my kids are not allowed to walk up them in socks - the youngest having broken his arm that way a couple of years ago.

I guess period properties, the ZX and log tables are just different aspects of out cultural heritage and reflect the interest of this forum. But don't knock discussions about energy and climate change. Taking the long view, this is the most serious threat to our old buildings.
