It would certainly be good to let the wood dry out as much as possible, after you've made sure that your hair slide ( :roll: ) has extracted as much of the rotted stuff as possible. You then need to treat with anti-rot and (probably) with wood hardener.
Ultimately, however, the way that you repair is a matter of exactly where the hole is, and how feasible it is to splice in a new piece of timber, and so on.
