Latest episode, which I couldn't stay away from no matter how much it hurt to watch, featured the raising of a timber frame, entirely authentically, except for every detail, because "Health and Safety Laws mean that traditional timber sheerlegs cannot be used today" according to the commentary.
Here is a cruck barn being built in North Wales at the moment, using... timber sheerlegs.

Boo to Channel 4 for reinforcing an untrue stereotype about Elfin Safety, and producing such a godawful programme into the bargain.

Anything "featuring" Ant & Dec or Davina McCall is a pretty good guide to when to switch over / switch off as well.

Took the opportunity of half term to take the kids to Wroxeter last week, as it's only a few miles from me. It was crowded - usually it's deserted - the staff said the TV programe had really brought the visitors in.
As for the new building itself - I only got a brief chance to look at it, with a 5 and a 6 year old in tow keeping them entertained was the No.1 priority! I wasn't very impressed - the timber frame looked good, but the quality of the rest of the construction was decidedly iffy, especially the finishing. In one room they had shown the plastering in stages in panels, up to the finished surface. Rough was without doubt the word that sprang to mind - and badly cracked as well.
Unless like me you are a local or happen to be close by, I certainly wouldn't bother making a special trip to see the building. The Roman remains are interesting but are very limited, unless you have a particular interest in the Romans I wouldn't make a special trip.
