And I must say I find my local Planning Dept extremely helpful and efficient. You ring, they say you'll need to fill out a form with all the details of the location and your plans (this is for 6 foot fencing alongside a public footpath for my hoped-for deer). The form arrived the next day. I haven't filled it out yet, which means so far they've been about ten times speedier than me.

Many thanks for your responses; blimey - I didn't mean to start a war of words.

Anyway, I looked at the deeds of the house and they show that the service road is within my boundary. I have included a graphic of the layout of the house and garden to show this more clearly.



The red line shows my boundary.
The pink area is the service road
The yellow line is the wall that was removed that I want to re-instate.

I have checked previous planning applications and there was no planning application for the removal of the wall.

I have spoken with the Local Planning Officer who has said that a replacement of the gates with a wall will not require planning permission, so long as the replacement wall is no higher than the existing gates.

He did however say that I should put all this in a letter to the Planning Department, with a sketch of how things are, and how they will change. In return the Planning Department will issue me with a letter stating that Planning Permission is not required.

I will let you know how long this all takes. Thanks for your replies and help
