Replacing plaster ceiling

You see folks - that's what is known as 'creative thinking'. There's no such thing as a problem - only an opportunity.

We have had a bulge in our hallway ceilng ever since we moved in. It has gradually got worse partly due to the fact that a whole caffetiere (sp) of coffee was spilt in the bedroom above and of course with just bare boards it soaked straight through. This has speeded the problem but it was well on the way. We have now taken the ceiling down and I can see what the problem was, there were no laths at all in the peice that was bulging infact, I can not see how it has stayed up at all. We are going to re lath and plaster the whole room between Christmas and New Year. Then its just the walls to sort!!

Although it's worth adding that a complete lack of laths could also be a contributory factor!

It's a testament to the strength of (presumably) haired lime plaster that the stuff has stayed up there thus far.

I'm always in awe of people who manage to set themselves a timetable and stick to it. :wink:
