Replacement window?

I was just a bit miffed yesterday about the reaction to my decision to use a plastic window in my 1940's crappy extension which is on the back of the cottage. True I didn't mention I would be pulling down this extension in the next few years. I just wish those that were so quick to denigrate my decision to use the much hated plastic window had been so quick to advise, as requested, on what best window to use. The window must be replaced as its almost falling out and beyond sensible repair.
As it happens I am in complete agreement with most sentiment regarding plastic windows in old houses and would never dream of such a thing in the original cottage.

It's probably too late now, but I have just removed a perfectly serviceable 70s-ish softwood window 108cm high x 93cm wide from my extension, and I have no further use for it. I'm not sure whether your dimensions were H x W, or W x H, but if you'd like to collect it from Oxfordshire, you can have it for free - please PM me. (I hate to see things get wasted)

I thought another-richard gave a very reasonable piece of advice in response to your question.. I just thought it a shame that you ignored his advice and went for plastic instead. I might have suggested you bought a window from me but it would cost twice as much so I didn't bother. Ah well.

It's one of those unfortunate threads where a scant description of the project leads to confusion - but still, I wouldn't put money into the UPVC brigade's pockets even for a quick fix- I'd sooner just board it up.

Still, although £400 is an awful lot for something you don't want, we had to buy a plastic roof we don't want this year at considerably more, so I have sympathy for Bayliss, and hope he or she will continue to post here.

Well yes this poster was generous in time to offer some sensible information for me, I didn't ignore that information, I used it in comparison from a financial perspective. The plastic temp' window worked out 30% less expensive :roll:

I do apologise. I should have spent time seeking out the cheapest supplier of uPVC windows for you. In future I'll stick to advice on spelling.

Apologies not required, I sought out a Upvc window supply fit company that are competitive and local. They suit my personal and financial situation at this moment in time, four years and the crap extension will be demolished in its entirety. I am currently consulting with an architect who is sympathetic to design of extensions to historic properties. Be assured my new extension will not be featuring Upvc or laminate flooring or any other materials that may offend the existing cottage.
