I've used them for alarms and bells but they would cope with one 2.5mm t/e crimped cable.
They are fitted with cable clamps too.

In the past I have used heavy duty heat shrink sleeving for this sort of work with adhesive lining. The adhesive grips the cable well and a longish amount of sleeve over the cable sheath prevents any ingress of moisture.
I haven't bought any for a while (thanks to a large amount bought at a car boot ) but there appears to be some on sale here:-

I'm afraid its down to the regs.

trunking is classed as cable containment

Joint boxes are meant to house joints, i'm afraid its as simple as that.

Self Amag.. tape is not required as these crimps are insulated.

if you have some of the standard joint box that contain the screwd terminal, you could just use that as an enclosure and use the crimps and not the screwed terminals provided.

Another reason why you need to update your system ASAP. An MCB would certainly have tripped.

The house where I drilled into the wire was not the same one as the 'project' I'm considering . . . . but I take your point. I was somewhat surprised about the fuse not blowing (I checked and the rating is correct).

Its a popular myth that mcbs are much safer than fuses. It isnt so. Each has its own pros and cons from a safety point of view, and for most applications theyre fairly well matched. Each option has 1 or 2 cases where it will be safer.

But as ever, the desire to sell people stuff they dont need wins.

some of the time yes. No for high current trips.

no, because there are other issues in the mix as well. Neither has a clear advantage over the other, except in 2 cases where each one has a noticeable advantage.
