Hi. I've just uncovered a lovely fireplace in my cottage. It is constructed of blue lias stone with a large blue lias lintel. When uncovering this fireplace, I removed large areas of plaster with a hammer and chisel, but now I'm left with stone that has patches of plaster remaining in thin layers. What is the best way to remove this plaster without damaging the lovely stone beneath? Thanks.
( We've removed the lot inside (outside will come later) and found ourselves in the same position as you. Because we had so much to do in the house (and ours is a long-term project), these small bits of render were left. However, after months of being left, we're now finding that they simply brush off!! I don't know why this has happened but, if you have enough time to wait, you may find yours will do the same.
