Remove fibre glass paint?

Hi

I have seen ths stuff in the past. Taking all reasonable precautions, try a hot air striper and aa scrapper. It sould delaminate from the brick easily.

Let us know if this works.

Yes Garnett. I noticed that it comes off quite easily with a light scrape. But, it comes off in fibres. So, will take time. Doable though. Just nervous about the underlying problem now….

It is often surprising just how much more the average roof worker knows about lead work when they realise YOU know all about it too.
Far too many people trust "professionals" to do a good job and don't get it because they themselves know no nothing about the work involved and what options there are.
Unfortunately IME most lead roof workers will do as little as they can get away with.
Get to know what is needed to be done.

Great advice. To that point, I attach the roofer's estimate. Grateful for advice on how this might be refined and what I should be insisting being done around this troublesome stack.

Can't really comment on the substance of the quote Paul but would have some reservations about the 'clear mastic' they intend to use for weathering the chase that the flashings tuck in to. Any mastic that smells of vinegar has a detrimental effect on lead and in a worst case scenario can eat the lead away which is not what you want to happen.

I can understand their wish to use a clear mastic as opposed to the standard grey type the lead manufacturers make, as it would not look right on your brickwork however, if the chases are made deep enough then the correct grey coloured mastic can be gunned into it to seal the joint and then pointed with mortar to match the existing...
