Penners its big chunks of everything, lots of old cement plaster, broken bricks and concrete. Not sure if it would be much good though except for filling big holes in.

I would have thought this the perfect excuse for you to hire some huge piece of excavating equipment to play with, isn't that what boys like to do?

While we are on a subject does anybody know where I can get rid of around two ton of hard core for nothing?

An "offered" add on your local Freegle/Freecycle group may work - if someone is doing a small building job they may take it, our local farmers sometimes take it for tracks etc.
I only got rid of a car bootfull of mine that way to some people who'd run out of cash mid renovation and their drive had become an impassable mudslide. I was genuinely surprised when they turned up in an old escort and didn't even take the seats down

If you can move it you can often take rubble to the local recycling centre - IIRC it used to be free in Norfolk but they may have limited the amount or the frequency that you can go.

Failing that then try ringing around your local skip hire companies - some offer reduced rates for clean rubble only skips.

Or there's always the minidigger/big hole in the garden solution - it's traditional!

I personally don't recommend deciding to use it on over engineered foundations for two patios - a job I thought would take a couple of days took two weeks of smashing bricks and cement with a lump hammer to get the same consistency as MOT at a few quid a ton

IIRC it used to be free in Norfolk but they may have limited the amount or the frequency that you can go

Bricks and rubble are classed as DIY waste in Breckland therefore one 80-litre sack of bricks can be taken to any Norfolk Recycling Centre per week per household. Also, note that plasterboard is note accepted at several sites.

I had an entertaining one with Freegle today. We put a wireless baby monitor on there - and stated in the advert that it suffered in use from bursts of interference, and we weren't sure if it was the monitor itself that was faulty or something in or near our house causing this.

Very nice chap turned up to collect it - he looked like a nightclub bouncer, but spoke with a very squeaky voice. My wife told him again about the problem with the interference, to which he replied with a totally straight face "Ohh, that will be spirits as it's an old house. I'll come back and do a seance another day if you like".



I had a mental picture of us all sat round in a circle, complaining to the spirit world to stop interfering with the reception for Radio 2!

Obviously his deeply held belief, and perhaps I shouldn't mock, but he was rather jumping to conclusions.......

My daughter's baby monitor also seems to suffer from bursts of interference - strange noises like gurgling and burbling, with the occasional loud scream.

The interference was likely to be a WiFi device attempting to "discover" networks by broadcasting over all the available channels.
As DECT phones, baby monitors, video senders and WiFi all use the same 2.4GHz band they can interact.

My most recent Freegle experience was 'offering' our ancient but well used Dyson DC02...
I'd just replaced it when I got a letter from Dyson offering a discount on a new model as they have (after 15 years) decided they can no longer offer spares. I stuck it on Freegle as spares and repairs - it was taken in an hour - I had a nice chat with the new owner about the merits of repairable hoovers then waved him off - he came back 5 mins later with a bottle of wine to say thanks!

Sounds like she left the sender unit behind in the local dentist's surgery then.

AMc, I can't believe that you're seriously expecting me to believe a crackpot theory like that. I mean, we've got a wireless router, plus I can pick up 5 of the neighbour's networks. We've got 2 laptops and a DECT phone, and I bet the neighbours have more of those as well.

How can any of those possibly cause a problem? No, it's much more likely to be the ghost of residents past :wink:

We once listened on ours to 'our' baby crying and were a little surprised when someone else went to comfort her and then find her favourite rabbit. Turned out our next door neighbours but one had bought a new monitor and put it on the same channel as ours. Very spooky for a moment or two but thankfully no seance required.
