Speaking of re-routing oil, Fred my mate (you were, weren't you?)...

I managed to "re-route" £92 worth of unleaded petrol into my diesel car this morning, instead of diesel.

So, after being "re-routed" home by the Very Nice Man from the AA (remember that advert?), I will now have to pay nearly twice as much again to have the unleaded "re-routed" out of my car, and whatever else they need to do to the car, to enable it to "reboot" itself once more. :roll: :roll:

I am a muppet, but the Very Nice Man says around 40,000 people do it each year, so at least I'm a muppet with friends! :lol: :lol:

Alternatively (and rather more expensively) buy a new Ford - they have a built-in anti-misfuelling gizmo.

At least you realised Catherine, and did the sensible thing and didn't try to drive off - if you had you'd be looking at a much bigger bill.

My father-in-law did the same thing, but he'd only put about £5 of petrol in to a near empty tank when he twigged & stopped. As it was an old van he decided to risk it, topped the tank up to the brim with diesel to dilute the petrol as much as possible and set off. The van ran rough until that tank had been used up but it didn't seem to do any lasting damage.

I doubt you'd get away with that on a more modern turbo-diesel car though.

@ Penners, it IS a new Ford - well, 18 months old, so clearly not new enough :roll: . I need to investigate those gismos!

@ Feltwell, I DIDN'T realise, and I DID drive off - broke down 1 mile away, and even then wasn't sure why I'd broken down until I called the garage and asked them to check their sales. Since I didn't take a receipt - d'oh.

None of this is like me at all, which is what really annoys me, not the inconvenience or the cost. :x

Now I'm off to assemble a digital piano, and hope I don't muck that up too

Bad luck Catherine. I did the same thing in the days when a full tank of diesel "only" cost about £60. I realised my mistake as soon as I returned the nozzle to the petrol pump, so at least I didn't drive off.

But I paid for the fuel through gritted teeth knowing full well I wouldn;t be getting any benefit from it. :evil:

That's the beauty of it though, if you are missing something you just google images "spare widget" snag the picture, size to fit, and you are done! Plus it's much easier keeping a computer file of leftover parts than the dreaded coffee jar of sundry bits. Not that that isn't also useful, just a couple of days ago I had to track down two spare screw covers for my sockets, the builder used to laugh at my squirrel tenedencies of obsessively hiding away all those bits and pieces.

No need for coffee jars - all the bits were there, although they took a bit of finding in all the packaging :!:

I now get to listen to the dulcet tones of my daughters discovering all the random sounds pre-recorded into the beast. From yawns to fire engines, via waves and barking, and who knows what else in between. And there I was, thinking it would make our piano practice easier... :roll:
