How is Mrs Penrose getting on?

It would seem that she has been abandoned while He Who Should Be Caring For Her has been giving an undue amount of attention to his roses.

He's devoting a very great deal more time to his Lady Wife than he is to his roses, I'll have you know. His fingers are virtually down to the bone, while She - strictly under doctor's orders you understand - sits imperiously in a chair, boosted by a silken cushion, waving Her stick at anyone who passes.

But progress is steady, thank you, and She should be able to dance the Dashing White Sergeant in a month or so.

I've plugged it in, but it doesn't seem to drill holes, knock nails in or cut wood. It just sits there getting hot.

Luckily I still have a mother and father, so I went over and spent an afternoon sorting out their new broadband, emails and sky tv. In return when I get back from my holidays next saturday I should have a greenhouse ready for planting and the big pile of dirty washing clean and in the wardrobe

Very sensible.
I always find that if I'm very careful when hanging things up to dry, and then fold them neatly, body heat soon sorts out any residual creases.

That reminds me of a (sadly very remote) ancestor who had a very large house in North Wales, making his annual inspection of the service areas and asking the purpose of one room with only a table in it. The butler returned after a few minutes with the response, "I understand it is used for ironing the newspaper, sir." :shock:

I expect you know the old joke about His lordship and the butler in Garrards. But just in case you don't:-

His Lordship was browsing in Garrards for a birthday gift for Her Ladyship. He was accompanied, of course, by his butler.

His Lordship spotted a couple of solid silver napkin rings on display, and asked the butler, "Chalmers, what are those?"

"I understand, milord, that they are domestic accoutrements employed at the dining table. Certain people will roll up their table napkins and insert them into such rings, to be kept for further use at the next meal."

His Lordship looked horrified. "Good God, Chalmers!" he exclaimed. "One had no idea that such poverty existed."
