Well if there is a local party you can count me in as well!
i think we might have scared off jellyfire. 
i drove through there today and saw the travellers stopped there , its not that bad really , a few donkeys and a few caravans but i was amazed to see a black blinged up range rover sport parked out side a caravan as well as the usual shoguns and transit tippers.

We've taken Penners' advice and have Stephen Boniface coming to give us advice later in the week, that's not to say everbody else wouldn't be welcome to pop in for a nosy sometime though!
Well they left us last week and decamped to Southwold, they weren't given a very warm welcome so immediately came back to Wortham where they'd been pretty much left to their own devices. To be honest I was fairly unconcerned when they first arrived, but after the mess they left I must say my views have turned a little bit Daily Mail! Out of the 19 families, 18 of them have permanent homes in Ipswich, would it be too much to ask to have taken their rubbish home with them when their holiday is over, then maybe they would receive slightly warmer welcomes when they pitch up somewhere.

We've taken Penners' advice and have Stephen Boniface coming to give us advice later in the week, that's not to say everbody else wouldn't be welcome to pop in for a nosy sometime though!

thats strange , i was on my way back from Southwold when i passed through your place. Id love to pop in to have a look round your cottage , it looks very similar to this cottage only a bit bigger , do you know how old it is? also you are more than welcome to come and have a gander at this place however i have to warn you it is a bit of a building site at present. 
Well the man from Whitworth Co Partnership came today and it was very helpful, I was at work so it was my wife who was here, but has definitely set our minds at rest and given us a definite plan of attack on what to tackle first etc and what can wait, along with spotting a potential nightmare in the making with an unsupported floor where a wall had been removed at some point and not replaced with anything, so would heartily recommend them to anybody else in a similar position. Also pointed out lots of interesting features some of which we hadn't noticed. Scorch marks and protection marks on the beams etc.
Would love to have a mooch around yours at some point Robgil, and likewise if you want a nosy you'd be welcome here. Should be a bit less like a bombsite after next week once the heating is finished so anytime after that would be good, just drop me a PM and I'll give you our number or vice versa. We had been told it was 17th Century, but consensus from the CO and the man from Whitworth is that its mid 1500's, so nice to have an extra century added to the age! How about yours? Yeah i was under the impression that they were of a similar vintage. This place was , according to the walsham history group records built some time between 1520 and 1580. The brick work in the plinths is an old English bond which probably means nothing as this bond was used after the Flemish settlers came in 1540 something but the inglenook is a Flemish bond , not a very accurate way to date a house so between 1520 and 1580 will have to do.
I think the house suffered from a fire at one side because one of the king studs is scorched and i have found some burnt wood or charcoal buried in the clay around this stud, also the fire place in this end of the house is Georgian where the other one is Tudor. I have noticed the timbers and construction of the first floor differs in this half of the house. Anyhow you are more than welcome to pop around and have a look, drop me a line when you get your heating sorted and we can arrange things. Hopefully i will have my living room in a better shape by then although i was pricing up some reclaimed floor bricks today in that period homes place over at four went ways and at 60 odd quid a square meter i think cement will have to do for now :shock: , cement with a 12 inch trench around the edges.

Robgil, while I'm delighted you have found somewhere to enjoy and cherish, I can't help thinking (from the tone of all your post-purchase contributions) that the wreck we looked at near Cambridge has probably lost its saviour 
have you been back there lately Gareth? We drove by there a while back and it hadn't changed a bit.
Perhaps if you are down this way any time you should drop in , I think you might find this cottage just as interesting , if not more so.

Robgil, a baby arrived is what happened to Jellyfire! Nobody warned me quite how much time, money and energy they involved so house renovation has taken a bit of a backseat lately. Have got an LBC application in at the moment for all manner of bits and bobs, so once that is sorted then will be back onto not having a clue where to start on the house. At the moment keeping the garden tame seems to be taking up every rare spare minute!
Wortham tea shop is indeed very nice, and offer of tea and biscuits at mine still stands should any of the locals fancy a nosy, numbers would have to be very limited though as I would be in a world of trouble with the wife if it was anything approaching what could be classed as a party!
