I know Upton somewhat, my dad used to live there. It's a nice town, and is also home to one of the most absurdly named streets in the world.

Is it even more stupid than The Krons - a little country lane just outside Hempnall, in Suffolk? I reckon it was named after an alien race who moved there after escaping from the dying planet Kron.

Hmm, kind of painful reading, that. That would be what we'd ordinarily do, but as Penners succinctly says, the money never really existed, and there are all manner of obstacles to tarting it up.
Hope the house will realise what was paid for it 7 or 8 years ago, which I think was around 160,000 But I doubt it. Still, as it wasn't us who paid that, and as this is a generous gift from the in-laws, it doesn't matter as much as not falling out over it.
The house Ivor linked to is very interesting - quite palatial compared to this Leeds one.
I suppose there will always be people who have closer to 160 than 325 for a house though.

I'd be a little suspicious about all those lights on in that cottage in Worcestershire - must be really gloomy in there! But I agree the picture makes a huge difference. I nearly didn't even go and look at our place because the picture said it was at the end of a lane and showed a swathe of tarmac in front of it. I took that to mean it was at the end of the lane next to a main road. Actually the tarmac is over-zealous previous owner wanting to limit the mud outside the front door and the estate agent must have gotten down on his hands and knees to get so much tarmac and so little cottage in the picture.

The advice given in the thread turned out to be very true and we were lucky that parents-in-law took the trouble to make the place look spotless and functioning. Not a lot of money was spent but it now has a kind of cheap appeal. And we have a buyer! Many a slip twixt cup and lip and all that but the lady has booked a survey and claims to be a cash buyer
Chris is now doubly glad he's never permitted a joint account as I've spent the money, in my head, ten times over.

Guitars especially vintage ones are a great investment. I was so close to buying this one, it is the ultimate jazz guitar, but it was made clear to me that it was either the guitar or the girlfriend but not both. Someone bought it very quickly so relieved me of that little dilemma!!!!!!
