Did you get my PM?
Thank you. I have never knowingly quaffed a latte in Islington.Pford75 said:Strikes me that the eco-lobby might have more credibility if they first gave up this evil 'stuff' they keep referring to. Whilst I know that Biff takes lots of steps to minimise his own consumption, I dislike being preached to by latte-quaffing, islington types who themselves consume much more than the national average.
Oh that's easy. Speaking with my Spokesman for all the Green Lobby hat on, QE only makes sense to folk who think economic growth can soon be resumed and continue ad infinitum.Flyfisher said:And I wonder how the green lobby reconciles something like No Buy Day with the Government/Bank of England's continued pushing of 'quantitative easing' to kick-start the economy?
Well, who'd have thought it!Flyfisher said:Meanwhile, the science seems to get worse by the week, with a 6 degrees increase being the latest prediction against the generally held view that just 2 degrees will be a disaster: http://www.newscientist.com/blogs/shortsharpscience/2009/11/world-on-track-to-rise-by-6-de.html
Do you mean folk like most major governments that seem to be pushing pretty hard to get their economic growth back up and running and are prepared to spend previously unheard of billions, trillions even, to that end? Think about it; what's the best way to spend a few hundred billion pounds (that we have to borrow anyway) - carbon capture research and technology that might save our species while allowing industrialised economies to continue or save a few ailing banks that made bad business decisions? Easy indeed.biffvernon said:Oh that's easy. My point wasn't to be surprised, it was to highlight the complete disconnect between government words on climate change and actual behaviour. No one is actually taking climate change seriously; they're pretending they do, they're saying they do, but there seems to be precious little sign of any real action that stands a chance of really reducing CO2 emissions. The whole issue is seemingly regarded as a rather annoying diplomatic issue rather than a potential extinction event.biffvernon said:Well, who'd have thought it!

Hey, what about me? I was there, too.JoceAndChris said:not only in meeting our delightful hostess but also the extraordinarily handsome Mr P, his angelic wife, and darling Mr Hughes
