Rather too large I think... and a bit of camera shake - but hey!

Yes it's SPAB HQ in Spitalfields - sadly becoming now rather surrounded by glass and steel crud.

Right - yes I will try out other things in the test area, but possibly a post (even a FAQ on how to do it...) on pics would help others.

I have resubmitted to Photobucket. I've also maybe even reduced the size... try again and see it a pic appears. it appears to me when I preview...

It's not much help if they appear to be there when I check, but not to others.

try http://www.imageshack.us instead, then you can post a small ish thumbnail photo in the forum which when clicked takes you to a full size version.

its free too - and you dont need to sign up - just upload the pics

That sounds useful... but I am so useless that I think I must have deleted the image thinking once posted that was OK. I'm now signed up though for the freebie Photobucket stuff.

Did that pic above appear? I've had another try in the test area, both an URL and a pic... thye work for me. Not sure if an URL is good or not?

Ah - look again and the pic has appeared, and smaller!

Complicated stuff this, but I will also try that other site - thankyou, can be useful for others too.

It does say you can register - maybe that gives a wider range of services?

Right - that's ImageShack as a thumbnail, I see you get ads too though when you click on the thumbnail... not sure what the stuff at the bottom does.

What do others think? Seems very quick and simple. No idea how long the images remain.

had forgotten about the ads etc - I use firefox which seems to block them pretty well.

I'm not sure they matter hugely - they seem to change and I don't think that it could be construed as deliberate advertising on the part of the poster. Scroll 'em off screen... at least they aren't animated and don't make noises, unlike the ads on Photobucket.

Thanks for that - I think it's so quick and easy to use and will be most useful.



Also - further discovery - a click on the pic will bring a direct link to ImageShack...



and you can add other pics. Hmmmm.

Well your most recent attempt on Photobucket worked for me. As did the ImageShack ones. The Photobucket image was larger and much easier to see clearly.

Have you clicked on the thumbnail images to enlarge?

It's a very good feature - those who don't have Broadband etc do have probs with large pictures in a post..

Very very easy... I think I like ImageShack.

I think I've got it too! Can download too from other sites, save on my computer, then post...

If you click on the thumbnail you get the pic reduced. Click on the pic and it comes full size (lovely roof tiles...)

If you click on the link it gets you a full size pic.

Uesful, very. Saves space in posts and the ability at times to show a large image without it cluttering up everyone's screens etc is useful.

There are a number of ways to post which I have yet to explore.

Yes - the only minor irritation with Image Shack is that the full size image takes a while to download - even with broadband. Did you upload this one? If so you might make it quicker for folks if you compress it a bit more before uploading. 1.4MB is un-necessarily big even for a large computer screen image. Try taking it down to about 800 x 600 (480kB). That'll make it quicker for you to upload, too.

I used the resize to 640x480 button on ImageShack - but when I click on the main image (the one which appears first is OK though?) still get large - haven't yet fathomed out how to resize first. Hope that the image you get when you click the thumbnail is OK though? seems fine at this end.

I also pressed the button which removes the black band and the date from the image bottom.

Yes, the posted image looks nicer without the file size data at the bottom. And that thumbnail is perfectly visible, but obviously one doesn't get a very clear impression of the detail in the picture.

The full size image is still pretty big - 1.2MB. As I said, I have broadband (1 meg) and it took a few seconds to download.

Have you tried resizing in Picasa before you upload?

I haven't tried resizing yet in Picasa as I don't know how! I did look but... I'm loading from the pics in My Pictures... that's what uploads when I press 'browse'...

Actually - are we at cross purposes here?

I think that you get three sizes of pic - the thumbnail, the medium when you click on the thumbnail, and then click on the medium and you get huge - lovely for detail, but...

I have mega. Broadband too. So far so good...

When I click on the ImageShack thumbnail, I download an image 800 x 1067. If I then click on that, it jumps to a larger version: 2272 x 1704.

However, I have a theory! The 800 x 1067 takes a surpisingly long time to download, while the 2272 x 1704 appears the instant I click. I suspect that they're possibly both downloading at the same time, and clicking the medium one just switches it immediately to the largest one (which will be the one you uploaded from your My Pictures folder).

The solution is definitely for you to reduce the size before you upload. As I said, I reckon about 800 x 600 will be about right.

Time for some Picasa homework!!

I can't see how to reduce using Picasa, and can't see how to get Picasa up when I press browse... I get my pictures up in the My Pictures part of the computer.

I do like the thumbnail idea thiugh, so any help appreciated by anyone. I hope this may help others.
