But what about false alarms?
I'd bet we've all had a smoke alarm go off when the toast has burned, a chimney has blown-back or something similar. A deafening alarm is annoying enough in such circumstances but, I think we'd all agree, is an acceptable event for the safety provided. An indoor rainstorm might not be so acceptable.
