plastic soil pipe connection to new cast iron stack

Technically I dont suppose theres any reason you couldn't put a plastic pipe into a cast iron socket (assuming it goes in ok with clearance) and seal it as you would cast to cast using the wet cord and sealant. Maybe I could have done that instead of putting a small length of cast into the branch socket and then joining that to the plastic with a sleeve. There may have been a reason why I did it that way but I dont remember

The piece of plastic pipe I had at hand was a fairly tight fit. Tight enough to make me a bit concerned I wouldn't get enough sealant around it to give a decent enough seal. I've got a bit more homework to do on this before I do it for real!

A bit of "cast iron porn" for a Friday morning.....

Here's one of this week's endeavours, an old cast iron hopper rescued and installed on my newly repointed porch complete with restored stonework, fed into by a lead overflow detail above.




Alas if you pan out you'll also see the ugly plastic soil stack with it's even uglier connections, gas meter box, boiler flue, knackered cellar window in need of restoration, lots more repointing and brick repairs to do... :lol: :lol: The sheet of OSB is at least only resting against the wall (goes on the ground when repointing to stop mortar stains on the tarmac drive)



I've just shown you the ugliest part of Feltwell Towers! Ahh well, at least *one* bit is done now....... :wink:

Brickwork repairs in progress, temporary lashup of putting the waste pipes for our bathroom sink and bath through the newly cored hole for the to-be-installed soil pipe, house temporarily reduced from 3 loos to 1 (which with 6 people, good job the British know how to queue!) - but - even with brickwork not washed down yet after the repointing, it looks better already I think.

Helped by my removing an internal wall over the winter - gave me plenty of bricks that are a perfect match to the external walls, even if they are a bit clean. This area had been knocked about so badly, we've changed about 30 bricks in total just in this area. *Nearly* finished repointing the house now.......
