Those clean patches on the paving could well be the gutter overflowing, or being missed completely.

Good spot indeed - I'm itching to get in it...any day now! I know there will be a few issues but I'm sure it can all be rectified - and I'm of the opinion that previous remedial work can often exacerbate issues..or even create new ones - I'm going to create a project page on here to track progress
