Nothing wrong with double-insulated cable, but its primary marvellousness is that it allows electrics to be installed largely without conduit. The risk of chafing through single-insulated wires while pulling through conduit is pretty negligible if done with due care and attention. If I was looking for a rodent proof installation I'd bet on single-insulated wires inside steel conduit rather than double-insulated cable laid in the open. But 'open air' double-insulated cables are, of course, far cheaper to install than steel conduit, hence its popularity. Still, there's no harm in using double-insulated cable inside conduit (thermal considerations notwithstanding), unless its stiffness means you end up having to pull it with considerable force, thereby risking serious damage :wink:malcolm said:I like double insulated wire, it is a marvelous invention. I would be reluctant to use single insulated wire hidden away in a conduit which could become chaffed on pulling through or eaten by wire eating conduit mice.
