Planing internal door

I have a "new" door for our front room that looks more in keeping with the such doors.
However, it is about 70mm too wide, so I would have to plane 35mm off each side. Is this too much for a 4 panelled antique door?

35mm would be some amount of planing.... If you are going to alter it by that much then better option would be a circular saw with a good fine blade and something straight to run it on.

But I think 35mm off the stiles would throw the proportions well out of whack. Stand it up as close in to the doorway as you can get it and see what it looks like from the other side before committing.
