and that lampshade is not in keeping at all..............

It's a shame because it doesn't look much in the photos but 'in the flesh' it's a cracking job! I'm very pleased )

To be honest I think it's looks really good. There is just one bit that looks a bit 'heavy'. I think because it's high up. They're coming back again today to damp it down and smooth it over so I'll see if they can soften the edge on that bit for me.

In case you're wondering, the lightshade was put up to see what sort of effect we'd get from an uplighter and, to be honest, it's really good. Of course, different designs might be necessary ;o) I must admit though, when all we have is an earth floor with lots of holes in it downstairs, it does look a little bizarre to have a lightshade up upstairs!! LOL

This is probably a very stupid question, but will all that stonework be plastered eventually, or is it intended to be left exposed?

We're leaving the stone exposed. It has to be raked out and repointed yet. The areas we've covered are brick. The same will be done downstairs, although downstairs the areas of stone are mostly whole walls. Have you seen the pictures of our house?

Today we've been doing some of the underpinning on the internal walls that carry the stone staircase. It's taking a little longer than expected but should be finished by next weekend. Then, we can start digging the earth floor up ready for the LECA to go down )
