Finally managed to get round to putting a picture of the house on here. I know how you all like them. I have loads of the house and garden but this one is the best. At the back is the new extension which took the place of the old, cold and lop-sided Victorian add-on that had no foundations. I'll post pictures of the back and other parts soon.

I hate solar panels, however, I've finally got the CO and Babergh planners to agree to this in the back garden!! No more heating oil rip-offs!!

I used to live in Mistley in Essex and, believe it or not, I had a brand new house (with character!!). It was painted pink and, oh boy, did I get some stick. I told everyone in vane that on the paint tin the builders left me it said it was Salmon. Pink in Essex is very difficult to justify and defend. Katie Price says it all.

When I moved across the estuary to Stutton everyone locally fully understood and appreciated it, however, the guys in my office in London simply saw me going from one pink house to another and I was toast.

Zebra - what you see in the picture is how we bought it. There is no 'before' at the front. All the changes have take place inside and at the back. Will try and find time to post pictures asap.

Okay, I know some of you are going to scrunch your toes and hold up crosses but here are the pictures of the back. :twisted:

I don't have a handy picture of the Victorian structure that was previously there but please don't shed a tear because neither the CO or Babergh planners thought it worthy of keeping. We have now transformed the way we use the house. The link hall joined the old house pretty much spot on where the old extension came off so no damage done. We moved the small and very impractical kitchen into the new room, closed up one walkway and opened up another. Out went the Economy 7 and in came oil central heating. Renovated the inglenook and upgraded (rather than renewed) the electrics. The only hiccup was when the builders (no- I didn't build it) removed the old kitchen and water a month before they gave us a replacement!!

Almost finished the landscaping.

Excellent! It's a nice marriage of the old and the new. The new doesn't dominate the old, and it gives the house a new lease of life.

We've just been down the same road, with the same frustrations, and do not in any way lament the loss of our Victorian rear extension.

It was mentions of "Economy 7" that put us off several Tudor properties that we were considering. This one has a large oil-fired heating system. Although it has the capacity to heat the new bit, we were told that under no circumstances would we be allowed to connect the (comprehensively heat-insulated) new bit to the existing heating system. So we have two electric skirting radiators. The suggestion of a second oil-fired boiler alongside the first, to supply heat to one room, didn't make much sense to us.
