The police have been very very unhelpful. Ms Robgil was persuaded by this person not to call the police or her insurance , he was very imposing and scared the life out of her and the police did nothing , he called us pretending to be the police and they still did nothing, basically the police are to busy catching people doing 35 in a 30 zone to help a defensless woman and a 2 year old child being abused by a scum bag who had just crashed into them in the middle of Tescos car park.

Sorry to hear about this episode. Fraid you're right about the police, a couple of years ago I had a problem with someone alleging I'd harmed his pet, was very intimidating, tried to blackmail us for his supposed vet's bllls, police not interested. They just want to deal with simple so-called crimes like 'speeding' so they can tick off their quota of clear-ups.
I guess that as usual the Govt has promised to cut their red tape but not done so, they are undermanned, etc, I wouldn't be a policeman for all the tea in China.
However, I think if you make a formal complaint they have to investigate it. Worth a word with Citizens Advice methinks, won't cost you.

Write-off is a subjective matter, if you think you can fix it, you can buy the salvage back from the insurer.

You cannot "tar them all with the same brush" but there is good and bad in all walks of life.About ten years ago at 5.30 am I took my nice Lotus europa tc out of the garage,parked it on my drive and walked back up the drive to shut the garage door,there was a sickening noise and the car had been hit by a local pc in his own citroen who had mounted the kerb and hit the car broadside smashing the drivers door and front wing pushing it sideways into wall on the nearside.He got out of his car and said"Im a bobby,this is down to you" I took some photos and he told me I was wasting my time.He took me to court for his insurance excess,after discussing a bbq and the health of his sproggs with the magistrate I was told that a police trained driver was unlikely to drive into a stationary car even though the damage was to the front of his car and the sides of mine.When I offered my photos as proof I was told the could only be produced with the agreement of both parties which he objected to saying "photos can be fiddled" I asked about an appeal and was told there wasnt one!my insurance firm refused to back me and I had to pay his excess!.He was later dismissed from the force and appeared on the "barred list" at our local pub but after all these years it still hurts.

Last Tuesday a work colleague's wife was hit from behind by 3 guys in a Transit van, the driver got out and said sorry it was his fault and can we sort it without getting the insurance people involved? She agreed and (foolishly) gave them her name and address. As soon as she had finished the driver told her ''now we know where you live you're not going to make a fuss about this are you?''
He then got back in his van and drove off!
She had the presence of mind to note the number down and firstly rang my colleague who told her to ring the police straightaway. She did this and gave them her details and that of the offending van and they said an officer would call next day to take a statement. On Friday, when they still hadn't shown up, my colleague rang them only to be told ''We are not going to pursue this any further as the van isn't showing up on our database (?) and anyway your wife's car is a company car so they can sort the damage out''. When he replied that his wife had been threatened he was told, ''Well, we only have your word for this''

Take the law into your own hands. Although you might get arrested for doing that.

The next person who runs into my car then intimidates my partner and scares my young child, I feel like simply beating the living carp out of them,then there really will be no need to inform the police or insurance company. :evil:

It has now escalated and he is now trying to say that he met mrs robgil in a pub car park earlier that day, I walked away from him after he blurted this out.At the time I was outside his house taking photographs of the big reinforced Mitsubishi Pajero bumpers he has had retro fitted to his suzuki :shock: , I do hope he has notified his insurers about this and all the other mods he has done to his vehicle to harden it up.

Would not proving he had modified his vehicle without telling his insurers give them an excuse to get out of paying out on any claims? Is there still a clause about damage on private land? even if you pay the extra for legal representation do not count on this,( the brief who was to accompany me to court never tuned up and he had all my paperwork!) he phoned me afterwards to see what the outcome was and when told I had lost said that he thought that would be the outcome and that was why he did not attend (I do not pay the extra anymore) Good luck! phil.

I think the unsurers would have to pay out to third partys with regards to none disclosure, but I cannot be sure.
We have an inspector from the insurance comming to look at our car tomorrow so liability should be put to rest , hopefuly. It makes you wonder what the point of having insurance really is.

Just to update, insurance has paid up, liability still to be sorted.
So we are now looking for a Saab 93 ss Aero , hopefully we will be back into the cockpit soon.

Picked this up today. On the way home one or more of the ignition coils packed up, TCS packed up , gearbox fault lamp lit up , security systems packed up and a wheel bearing started squeeling. I had to drive it from Nottingham like this , took me most of the night to get home.
Could be worse , the first one I looked at had what I think was the dreaded sump sludge death rattle.

Why oh why did I buy another bloomin Saab. This will be Saab No 3, The two before this one died spectacularly, the first one ending up underneath a Landrover (my landrover would you believe) and the second one was rammed by a Vitara in Tescos supermarket car park by a geezer with one arm and a womans hair doo.

Stll , it goes like a rocket when it goes and the aircon is nice and cold so I cant really complain.
At least I can give the stupid Ford Focus back to the hire company now.

It's not at the moment Joce, I took 2 weeks off work sick under doctors orders and my boss sacked me as a result without notice. :evil: So funds are low, still plenty of things I can be getting on with though so things should pick up a bit now that I have the time to do it.

Sounds like you didn't need a boss like that -rotter. Hope you're fully recovered and can have a sunny summer, now, on your project. These peaks and troughs are inevitable I think - you can't flog on with renovations day after day. Ours hasn't progressed at all this summer ( bar the listing), in fact it's gone backwards with storm damage!
