Not sure how many period home owners own period motor vehicles but I see the MOT test will now only apply to post 1960 vehicles.as from 18th nov this year.phil.

Then having to explain that certain items, such as windscreen washers, are not required if you have an opening windscreen. Let alone trying to explain to them the operation of a pre-select gearbox so they can simply move the car. YIPPY
I do all the work on my series LandRovers.88v8 said:Ignorant mechanics can do a lot of damage to an old car. Some imagine that the transmission 'handbrake' on my Landrover is for stopping the car, even though the handbook specifically forbids this use.
Leaving the Landy for work to be done + MOT, the mixture was 'richened' by turning the float screws the wrong way, leaving it so weak that the CO was off my meter. Luckily I realised before driving too far.
And the number of 'discussions' I've had about 'loose' taper-roller wheel bearings. Now, I just 'happen' to have the Workshop manual in the car at MOT time, and any work that gets done, gets done by me.

I know of no one who knows more about my vehicles than I do.
what annoys me most in the MOT is when they decide to hit the chassis to check for corrosion.
(Their knocking can sometimes sound like a steel band playing)
They can damage the underseal and that leads to rust spots in the most out of the way places.
Assuming it is serviced properly, running well, and you don't have any warnings about failed Lambda or MAP sensors etc., then unfortunately I'd guess at a faulty catalystrobgil said:mot is up on the saab on Saturday , can I get the CO down to normal levels for the emissions?
