Its a girl! 7lb 1oz 8.44am today.

Mother and baby doing well.

Things started to happen about 1.30am Friday night, and didn't sleep until this afternoon. Suspect we won't get much more for a long time to come.

Still, should make the census form interesting.

Merlin Junior was 6 months old this weekend, so I can concur that time does fly with the little ones.

Enjoy your time with the bundle of joy and do what we did, listen to all the advice, and then make things up as you go along, doing what you think is best!

The best comment I got about advice for new babies was from a father of 5 I worked with:-

"Listen to half of the advice you're told, believe half of that and you'll be about right. All babies are different and the human race has survived pretty well so far with parents doing what feels right."

Wobs, you'll find the online census form amusing, if you haven't already filled it in. I did ours last night - it completely ignores the age of the person you are completing the form for, despite the fact that you've already entered that they are your son or daughter and their date of birth - as I found when filling the form in for my one year old.

So, for baby Wobs, you'll have to confirm:-

- If she's single or married
- if she's co-habiting with a partner or not, and if she's entered into a same-sex civil partnership
- if she has to act as a carer for anyone
- if she considers herself to be English or British
- what her main language is
- if she's got a passport

There's also a question on if you lived at the same address 12 months ago - I wouldn't be surprised if that still appears for her as well !

The most important thing is to record the daily developments using still camera and/or video-camera, and/or tape-recorder.

With video and tape you don't have to be glued to the machine all the time. Just put it on a shelf, or a tripod etc, aim it at your subject, switch on and forget about it while you go about your activities.

Have all these machines on hand, ready to go as soon as the infant phenomenon looks like doing something interesting.

Ha Ha, Yes , the first bath , the first roll over , the first bogie, the first blink. All these and more have to be caught on camera so as to bore the in-laws stupid when they come to visit.
